Long Pepper

Long Pepper (Piper retrofactum) is hotter than black pepper, but has an appealing complex earthy pungent flavour with a touch of spice. It was used by the Ancient Greeks and was the prevalent pepper in Europe up until the 12th century. It was particularly popular in early hot chocolates during the 17th & 18th Centuries.
