Cubebs

Cubebs (Piper cubeba), or tailed pepper, have an aromatic aroma with a pungent slightly bitter flavour. Cubebs were possibly used by the Greeks in the 4th century BC and were mentioned by Marco Polo in the 13th century. Cubebs were thought to ward off evil in the 17th century, and were particularly popular in Medieval and Tudor cookery.
