Dark chocolate flavoured with a 17th century Spanish spice mix

(Chilli, Orange, Cinnamon, Cloves, anise & Vanilla)

This spiced chocolate bar is based on Antonio de Ledesma’s 1685 medicinal recipe for hot chocolate. It is one of the earliest European chocolate recipes, and at the time was only used as a drink. The chilli and vanilla are Aztec ingredients combined with the European flavours of orange and other spices.

Chocolate up until the 1840s was almost always used as a hot chocolate or as flavouring. For this bar we have taken the flavours of early Spanish hot chocolate and created a spiced dark chocolate bar.

Ingredients: Chocolate (Cocoa Mass 43.0%; Sugar 43.0%; Cocoa Butter 13.0%; Emulsifier: SOYA Lecithin, Vanilla, Orange Peel, Cinnamon, Cloves, Anise Seed, Cayenne Pepper. (Chocolate min 54.5% Cocoa Solids). May contain MILK.
